For more than a decade, Microsoft customers have used the Lifecycle Services (LCS) platform to manage their Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations and AX solutions for business processes.
From the beginning of implementation projects to go-live preparation and long-term maintenance and updates, LCS has offered access to management and administrative parts of customers’ cloud ERP setups.
While LCS will continue to exist, Microsoft has announced plans to support the administration of Dynamics 365 F&O modules. It includes (Finance, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, and Project Operations) through the Power Platform admin center, which is the portal for managing all Dataverse-centric Dynamics 365 applications and Power Platform services.
Choosing to migrate from LCS is obviously a choice of a user. Some people have nothing to do with power platform functionalities, so they can continue using the LCS.
But if you are trying to manage all the Dynamics 365 apps from one place, the power platform admin center is for you.
How to manage it and enable Dynamics 365 apps?
An environment is a modern term for every instance of a Finance and Operations application. Customers who purchase Lifecycle Services licenses for Finance, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, or Project Operations receive a sandbox and a production environment.
In the Power Platform admin center, you have more options. Many Dynamics 365 F&O apps, including Marketing, Sales, and Field Service, can be managed from a single location that also houses Power Automate procedures and Power Apps. Finance and Operations apps can now be installed alongside any other Dynamics 365 app in the Power Platform environment model.
Choices for Admins
Administrators’ requirements vary depending on the programs that their firm employs. If you don’t require Power Platform features, you can continue to manage your Finance and Operations infrastructures and apps with Lifecycle Services. Should you wish to transition environments from Lifecycle Services to the admin center in the future, Microsoft promises to provide a means to do so?
Also, the new functionality is available for Project Operations trials if you wish to manage all of your Dynamics 365 apps in a single environment and admin center. Dual-write, business events, and virtual entity support are included in Project Operations environments, saving setup time significantly.
Bottom Line
Trials of Project Operations will be the first F&O app to receive the Power Platform admin center upgrade. Trials for the other F&O apps will follow, and Microsoft has yet to announce when production support will be available. All in all, it is a great opportunity to organize your business even more, especially if it involves multiple apps of Dynamics 365.
