1.  Protect sensible Data Using the Table Permission Framework

AosAuthorization parameter is available for every table and field in F&O. This parameter in the Table of Permission Framework (TPF) provides an additional layer for security purposes, including social security numbers and credit card information, to secure high-risk information. TPF requests users’ specific authorization to access particular items whether or not they have permission to view the item from the menu or table.

2.  Improve the Deny Permissions

The roles in Dynamics 365 finance and operations encryption allows you to have the control to deny the access permission or deny permission to perform any specific action. For example, you can easily grant specific rights to one user and deny any permission as needed for another.

3.  Know Where your master data is Stored

When using the user interface, security may either be set in code or the database. You can configure security using code using the Application Object Tree (AOT). It is important to know when to migrate your security settings to other environments by understanding where your safety configurations are located.

4.  Use Security Diagnostics for Task Recordings

Task recording helps managers to recognize which objects they can consume or use during task success, and one can use these recordings to configure these objects’ security settings. Administrators should not rely solely upon task records because task recordings reveal gaps.

5.  Divide Master and Transactional Record Responsibilities

Most disputes come from the division of duties, where a single user may change master and transaction records of the same operation. For this purpose, it is important to enforce a mechanism to prevent the user from conducting both sides of the transaction.

6.  Separate Multi-Part Transactions

Likewise, multi-part transactions need to be kept separate. If a process has several steps, the steps need a separate physical presence, or multiple users must be a part of the transaction to ensure that control is retained.

7.  Understand Mitigations

Mitigation means controls or mechanisms designed to minimize the user’s risk of accessing those processes and being separate from the system’s protection.

Examples of internal mitigation include, among others, workflows and approval of managers and external mitigation activities such as bank reconciliations.

8.  Use Workflows as a Mitigation

One can use Workflow as mitigation by attempting to force several users to participate in a process.

9.  Get Creative with SoD for Small Departments

SoD conflicts can be challenging to avoid in small departments with a limited number of people doing transactions. However, you can be creative in setting up many user processes that ensure a certain degree of scrutiny and approval is carried out. Try first to be creative and look at mitigation processes.

10.  Establish a Process to Provision Users

Taking one user’s role and copying the authorizations of this role blindly to other users can result in oversupply. Instead, you require a process that identifies the specific permissions given to every user.

The tips’ list does not end here as you may need more understanding about Dynamics 365 finance and operations row-level security for it.
